In 2007, professional snowboarder Jeremy Jones noticed that an increasing number of resorts he had always relied on for good snowboarding were closing due to a lack of snow. It was clear that something significant was happening, and he felt compelled to take action. However, he couldn’t find any organisations specifically dedicated to mobilising the outdoor community on climate issues, so Jeremy established Protect Our Winters.

In 2019, led by professional snowboarder Goro Komatsu, POW JAPAN’s activities began in Japan. What initially started with a small number of staff has evolved into a team of 7 members, 23 athlete ambassadors, 46 corporate partners, over 100 volunteers, and 16 sustainable resorts as of 2023.

POW JAPAN operates as a non-profit environmental organisation, working under the principle of “protecting the winters we love from climate change and preserving them for the future.” Therefore, a substantial part of our activities is sustained by the generous donations and support from individuals like yourselves.

The support from fellow enthusiasts who cherish snowy mountains and winter has propelled POW Japan’s initiatives to be more robust and effective. We sincerely appreciate the ongoing support from each and every one of you.

This program aims to raise awareness about the climate change crisis through the distribution of POW brochures and stickers in your shop, aiming to unite allies in taking action for climate change solutions.

All types of shops are welcome. Whether you manage a ski/snowboard or outdoor shop with a dedicated commitment to preserving snow and winter, or if you own a diverse range of businesses like restaurants, beauty salons, or dental clinics – everyone is encouraged to participate.
